The Bangladesh Integrated Space-Time Observatory (BISTO) is an open geospatial and climate platform that turns satellite observations into accessible maps, datasets and indicators for Bangladesh, down to district and upazila level.
BISTO collects, processes and publishes satellite-derived layers and time-series indicators across 11 themes: climate and weather, disasters and risk, water and hydrology, agriculture and food, forests and biodiversity, energy and infrastructure, population and demographics, health and nutrition, economy and livelihoods, education, and urban and WASH. Every figure on the platform is computed from real data; nothing is synthetic, and each dataset is attributed to its original source and licence.
The platform follows Bangladesh's administrative hierarchy: 8 divisions, 64 districts and upazilas. Each place has an indexable page under /places with live statistics for population (LandScan, ORNL), tree cover and forest loss (Hansen / NASA-USGS-UMD), rainfall (CHIRPS v3, UCSB), land cover (ESA WorldCover / ESRI) and vegetation (MODIS NDVI).
Layers are built from openly available satellite and gridded products, attributed as follows: NASA (MODIS, GEDI, VIIRS, Hansen), ESA (WorldCover, Sentinel-based land cover), USGS (Landsat), UCSB Climate Hazards Group (CHIRPS), ORNL (LandScan) and the JRC / European Commission (Global Surface Water).
